Half Day Sugar Loaf, Beaches and Botanical Garden Tour (External Visit)
The aerial cable cars at Urca and Sugar Loaf Mountain were inaugurated in 1912 and 1913 respectively. The whole system has been recently revamped and the ride is now faster and more comfortable. Sugar Loaf was created in a privileged place for the enjoyment of thousands of people because of the beautiful overview.
According to the historian Vieira Fazenda, it was the Portuguese who named the mountain. Sugarcane was cultivated in Brazil in the 16th and 17th centuries, and the juice was converted into sugar, formed into a conical shape, and shipped to Europe. The resemblance of this shipment, named sugar bread by the shippers, to the Rio cliff perhaps prompted them to name this cliff Sugar Loaf.
Sugar Loaf Mountain is the highlight of this tour, but other important sites of Rio, such as Maracanã Stadium, the Botanical Garden, our amazing beaches and others are also included in the sightseeing tour.
