Rio de Janeiro has been recently selected to be the host city of the 2016 Olympics and Para-Olympics. It will be the first time the Games will be held in South America.
The announcement was made on October 2nd in Copenhagen, Denmark, by Jacques Rogge, the IOC president. Rio de Janeiro has defeated great competitors such as Madrid, Tokyo and Chicago, after an outstanding presentation by its official and passionate committee.
